Following up with a Pittsburgh client for feedback after a workshop.
We at RA want to provide the best possible improv experience we can! And that’s why we always ask for client feedback after our workshops. We know that the only way we can improve is if you let us know which aspects of our offerings you love and which ones could use a little work!
We just wanted to shout out the amazing group we had at one of our Pittsburgh, PA workshops. As per usual, we sent out our “Thank you for attending and please share your feedback” emails a day or two after the session ended. These lovely humans had so many wonderful things to say!

(As well as a few things that they would suggest be done a bit differently, and we have incorporated said few things to great success! So thank you, Pittsburgh!)
One of the questions on the follow up email was about the exercise “Yes And Conversations”. If you’re not familiar, I’ll give you a brief breakdown. Yes And is what many consider to be the Golden Rule in improv. When your partner gives you a scenario, it is often best to agree and add on, rather than to say, “no, that’s not what’s happening,” since this usually stops the story cold and can confuse the other players and/or the audience.

In our workshops, we often play this game but we introduce it with variations. One of these variations is giving them the direction to respond with “no” or “but” instead of “yes and.” This allows everyone to really feel how the conversation changes with each different response.

By asking the follow up question, “Which iteration of “Yes and” did you like the best?” I learned some valuable insight- several people prefered the “No” response! So now I always lead a conversation after the exercise focused on which iteration led to the most complete plans and we discuss which versions people prefer and why. This is especially helpful in a team building workshop for people who have to come up with solutions and plans on a regular basis as a group.

We serve the greater Pittsburgh area, including Downtown Pittsburgh, South Side Flats, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, North Shore, East Liberty, Highland Park, Greenfield, Strip District, Mount Washington, Regent Square, Point Breeze, Fox Chapel, Aspinwall, Sewickley, Upper St. Clair, Peters Township, Cranberry Township, Wexford, Robinson Township.
